Nepal Earthquake Update: The death toll in the devastating Nepal earthquake reached 157 on Saturday and rescue operations were still underway. A strong earthquake of 6.4-magnitude — tremors of which were also felt in various parts of India including the national capital Delhi — jolted the Himalayan nation late on Friday, November 3. The tremors were felt for over seven seconds. Communication services were also disrupted in the country.

The Prime Minister Secretariat of Nepal confirmed the deaths of 157 people till 6.49 pm through an official bulletin. Injured people were rushed to the Surkhet Province Hospital and were being treated. As per news reports, 26 people were receiving treatment at the hospital.

Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal also visited the affected areas and interacted with victims.

As soon as the tremors jolted various parts of India, social media was flooded with pictures and videos of people running out of their houses. However, no fatalities were reported from any part of India. As per National Center for Seismology (NCS) Director Dr OP Mishra, the earthquake was very strong when it occurred in Nepal but its intensity reduced as it reached Delhi.
