New Delhi: New Cyber Information Technology (IT) rules have come into force for all social media platforms in the country. Now it has become necessary to appoint the Grievance Officer on the social media platform. WhatsApp and Twitter have also made the joining of Grievance officers. According to the new rules, social platforms which have more than 5 million users will have to have a Grievance Officer, a nodal officer and a chief compliance officer. All of them must be residents of India.
Under the Information Technology Act 2000, it is necessary to appoint an officer for redressal of complaints of users. It is called Grievance Officer. Many companies like Flipkart, Facebook, Go Air, HDFC Bank, Paytm, Jio Mobile have hired Grievance Officers for this work.

What are the benefits of Grievance Officer to the users?
According to the new IT rules, companies will have to clearly specify the complete details of the Grievance Officer and the way to contact him. That is, the contact number of the officer, the process of making a complaint will have to be told. When a user makes a complaint, the officer will have to confirm the receipt of the complaint within 24 hours. The complaint has to be resolved within 15 days from the date of receipt. If a user has lodged an objection to any content, then it will have to be removed from that platform within 36 hours. At the same time, content containing pornography and nudity will have to be removed within 24 hours.
Tech expert Abhishek Tailang, popularly known as Tech Guru, told a website, “Most fake news runs on social media. Many news become so viral that people start believing them to be true. Many news becomes the cause of communal violence. At the same time, many news hurts the religious sentiments of the people. In such a situation, with the arrival of the Grievance Officer, such news will be curbed. Now for this it is necessary for the users to be aware.
