At 11.17 am, the Sensex was trading at 40,760.47, down 409.65 points from the previous session, while the Nifty was down 128.6 points at 11,957.85. The 30-share Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) -based major sensitive index Sensex opened at 41,037.01, down from the previous session.
The National Stock Exchange (NSE) Nifty, a major sensitive index based on 50 stocks, opened at 12,012.55 with a slight weakness from the previous session, but later slipped to 11,923.85.
