Cadence elevates Alok Jain as India MD to drive semiconductor growth push

US-based technology and computational software company Cadence Design Systems has elevated Dr Alok Jain as managing director for its India operations, as the company sharpens its focus on expanding its presence in the country’s fast-growing semiconductor ecosystem.

In his new role, Jain will be responsible for driving Cadence’s overall strategy in India, including scaling operations, accelerating innovation, and strengthening collaborations with government bodies, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders.

Jain brings more than 35 years of experience in the technology sector. He joined Cadence India in 1997 and is currently serving as vice president in the company’s System Verification Group. Over the years, he has played a key role in shaping the growth of Cadence’s India operations, particularly at its Noida centre, and has led teams delivering advanced design and verification solutions to customers globally.

Commenting on the development, Cadence President and CEO Anirudh Devgan said India continues to be a critical hub for the company’s research and development and global growth. He expressed confidence that Jain’s leadership will help further strengthen Cadence’s innovation capabilities and deepen its engagement with India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Jain holds a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. He also completed his Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in the United States.

Cadence said India accounts for over 30 per cent of its global workforce, with a significant portion of employees engaged in core research and development as well as product engineering.

The company, which established its presence in India in 1987, has been an active contributor to the country’s semiconductor ecosystem. It has partnered with government initiatives and leading academic institutions, including IITs and other engineering colleges, to support talent development and chip design capabilities.

Cadence has also consistently featured among the top 100 companies in the “India’s Best Companies to Work For” survey conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute over the past decade, reflecting its focus on workplace culture and employee engagement.
