Delhi is witnessing a significant rise in power demand due to the early onset of winter this year. Between November 16th and 30th, 2025, the city recorded its highest daily power demand for this fortnight compared to the corresponding period over the last five years. The peak demand during this period climbed to nearly 4,486 MW, marking an unprecedented surge for the month of November.
A similar trend has been observed in the Tata Power-DDL distribution area, where the winter peak demand has also risen sharply, reaching 1,455 MW this season—one of the highest recorded in November in recent years.

Overall Winter Demand Expectation
With the India Meteorological Department forecasting a harsher-than-usual winter this year, Delhi’s power demand is expected to scale new highs. The overall winter peak demand for the capital is projected to touch 6,000 MW, surpassing last year’s peak of 5,655 MW.
Tata Power-DDL is fully prepared to meet the anticipated rise in demand without disruptions. This season, Tata Power-DDL expects the winter peak demand in its licensed area of North and North-West Delhi to reach 1,859 MW, compared to last year’s peak of 1,739 MW successfully met by the discom.
Tata Power-DDL spokesperson said, “We are fully prepared to ensure warm, safe, and reliable winters for all our consumers. Adequate power arrangements have been made through long-term tie-ups, backed by a robust and diversified Energy Mix comprising 14% Solar, 17% Hydro, 2% Wind, 1% Waste-to-Energy, 2% Nuclear and 65% thermal sources. We have also put in place comprehensive measures—ranging from green power sourcing to banking, storage optimisation, and advanced AI-based demand forecasting—to ensure uninterrupted and high-quality power supply throughout the winter period.”
In addition, Tata Power-DDL continues to promote responsible electricity consumption through its Behavioural Demand Response (BDR) Programme, leveraging in-house analytics to reshape consumption patterns during peak hours. Engaging over 1.30 lakh customers, the initiative delivered annual savings of 450+ MW, strengthening grid resilience, and contributes to India’s climate goals under Mission Life.
To ensure reliability during low temperatures and foggy conditions, the discom has strengthened its network through extensive preventive and condition-based maintenance of all critical electrical installations.
As winter peaks typically occur during the morning hours, Tata Power-DDL urges its consumers to support grid stability by switching off non-essential appliances during peak times and adopting responsible consumption practices.
