The Indian Coast Guard has seized 200 kilogram heroin from a boat that was allegedly from Pakistan. The consignment was being smuggled to Iran through Indian Ocean. Six people have been arrested in this connection.
In a swift operation, Gujarat ATS and Indian Coast Guard caught a Pakistani boat ‘Al Sakar’ near International Maritime Boundary Line, 50 km from Gujarat. According to the reports, the Indian Coast Guard stopped the boat at a distance of 1,200 nautical miles off the Kochi coast of Kerala and searched it. Upon searching, it was found that a huge quantity — around 200 kilogram — of heroin was being smuggled in the boat. The Indian force seized the drugs and arrested six people riding on the boat including Pakistani and Iranian nationals.
Later, the accused were taken to Kochi and handed over to the National Narcotics Control Unit.
Following this, the National Narcotics Control Unit and the Indian Coast Guard have started a joint investigation against six accused.
Initial investigation revealed that heroin was being smuggled from Pakistan to Iran.
Heroin is a powerful drug and production and sell of which is illegal in India. It is a highly addictive drug that can be injected, snorted and smoked. Once a person starts taking this drug, it is almost impossible to get rid-off this life threatening substance. Heroin is banned in India under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 that terms it illegal for a person to produce or manufacture, sell and purchase, possess and transport, store and consume any narcotic drug psychotropic substance.
