While granting bail to former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, the Supreme Court made it clear that the order is about bail, not to be construed as a case on Chidambaram. It also clarified that she was not interested in opening the sealed documents submitted by the ED, but since the High Court has seen them, it becomes necessary for them to see them as well. The court directed all the documents to be sealed and returned to the ED. At the same time, Chidambaram, released from jail, will hold a press conference on Thursday.
The CBI registered a case against Chidambaram on 15 May 2017 in the INX Media corruption case. It was alleged that irregularities in clearances from the Foreign Investment Promotion Board were conducted during the 2007 INX Media Group funding of Rs 305 crore from abroad. At that time Chidambaram was the finance minister of the country. The ED then filed a case on charges of black money.
Been in custody since 21 August
He was in custody since then arrested by the CBI on 21 August. On 16 October, the ED arrested him in connection with the case of black money. Six days later on October 22, he was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the case registered by the CBI. He was detained in the case registered by the ED.

Relief in congress camp
After Chidambaram’s bail, the Congress party wrote in a tweet, “Ultimately, Satya won, Satyamevjayate.” Former Congress President Rahul Gandhi wrote “Keeping Chidambaram in jail for 106 days was like revenge and punishment. Glad the Supreme Court granted him the bail. I am confident that he will be able to prove his innocence in a fair trial. ”His lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi described the court’s decision as balanced and human rights. It is also called as ‘light seen after a long tunnel’.
