New Delhi: The capital of the country has gone up in protest and support of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The uproar in North East Delhi starting Monday morning is still continuing. In the last 24 hours, five people including the head constable have died. There are more than 50 injured, some of whom are in critical condition. Section 144 is applicable in most areas of North East Delhi. All types of schools are closed today. There is tremendous tension in the entire area. A heavy police force is deployed. Not only this, the protesters also opened fire after stone pelting. Several hundred people are still present around the Zafarabad Metro and women are also protesting against the law.
The situation is tense even on Tuesday morning. Five motorcycles were set on fire in the morning. A large number of police forces are deployed on the spot. Late in the morning, 45 firefighting calls were received in Maujpur and surrounding areas, in which a fire engine was pelted, while a fire engine was set on fire. Three firemen have been injured.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has called an emergency meeting. All MLAs and officials from violence affected areas will be involved. Kejriwal tweeted – I am worried about the current situation in some parts of Delhi. All of us should work together to restore peace in our city. I again urge everyone to abstain from violence. In no time, I will meet legislators and officials of the areas affected by the violence.
In view of the tension in the area, Zafarabad, Maujpur-Babarpur, Gokulpuri, Johri Enclave and Shiv Vihar Metro stations have been closed. Heavy deployment of police force has been done in the entire area. Other states adjacent to Delhi have been put on high alert.
