Lockdown extension: Govt says it’s a rumour

New Delhi: The government on Monday contested “rumors and media reports” that the 21-day national Lockdown would be extended to contain the amount of coronavirus.

“There are rumors and media reports that the government will extend # Lockdown21 when it expires. The cabinet secretary has denied these reports and stated that they are without merit,” the Press Information Bureau said in a statement.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba also denied such reports this morning. “I am surprised to see such reports, there is no such plan to extend the blockade,” the ANI news agency said, as he cited it.

The government agency clarification comes after media reports speculated that the Center may be considering the extension of the pan-India blockade, which is why there were several announcements related to financial aid for up to three months.
