Lockdown Extension: IRCTC hints further woes

New Delhi: Though there is no clarity yet that the nationwide lockdown will be extended, the India Raiways’s subsidiary IRCTC has decided to suspend the operation of three trains till April 30. The booking of its three trains running in the country on the Varanasi-Indore route, Kashi Mahakal Express, Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas and Ahmedabad-Mumbai Tejas, was earlier stopped only from March 25 to April 15. A nationwide lockdown has been implemented in this period to prevent coronavirus infection. Booking was allowed after the lockdown period.

Officials said that keeping in mind the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the country, it has been decided not to run trains till April 30. An official of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) said that passengers who have booked tickets for the journey during this period can take a refund.

Lockdown Extension: These states to continue the ban

It may be noted that after the opening of the 21-day lockdown in the country, the Railways has already started all the efforts to prevent the infection of coronavirus during the journey and to maintain social distance between people. The Railways is also considering issuing an advisory to the passengers to help them beat the coronavirus.

According to the sources, the Railways may also ask passengers to use the ‘Arogya Setu’ app to monitor the health and follow the social distancing.

Officials say that due to the global epidemic of coronavirus, the journey of all passenger trains has also been postponed under the nationwide lockdown since March 25. Also, after getting the nod to resume the service, the Railways will start operations in a phased manner.

The railways have also decided to pursue the March 19 decision, in which all the concessions for railway passengers on tickets were discontinued.
