NRC data vanishes from the website

Amid nationwide dissent against the CAA-NRC, another blow to the govt, came when the data of the final citizens list vanished from the website of the state National Register of Citizens(NRC). According to the Union Home ministry, the data is safe and due to some technical issue in visibility of the cloud, the data is not showing. The ministry further said that the glitch will be resolved soon.

The NRC authorities have claimed a non-renewal of the contract signed with IT firm Wipro in light of the disappearance of the data.

“The cloud service for the huge set of data was provided by Wipro and their contract was till October 19 last year. However, this was not renewed by the earlier co-coordinator (Prateek Hajela). So, the data got offline from December 15 after it was suspended by Wipro. I assumed charge on December 24,” NRC state co-ordinator Hitesh Dev Sarma told news agency PTI.

“Once Wipro makes the data live, it will be available for the public. We hope that people will be able to access it in the next two to three days,” Mr Sarma said on Tuesday.

The congress has termed this whole incident as a mysterious and Malifide act.

The list which was declared on 31st August,2019, excluded around 19 lakh people from it.
