Kanojia has recently joined the party renouncing his journalism career. Previously he has worked in many reputed media organisations and has also received appreciation for his work. He, however, better known for his sharp criticism against the government policies. Kanojia was first arrested in June 2019 for tweeting against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. His arrest resulted in outrage by the journalist fraternity, many protests and candle marches conducted to register the anguish. Kanojia later got bail from the Supreme Court.
He was again arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police in August 2020 following a social media post related to Ram Mandir. It was alleged that his post could hamper social harmony.
