Navjot Singh Sidhu likely to release from Patiala jail on Saturday, April 1

Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu could be released from Patiala Jail on Saturday, as per a tweet from Sidhu’s Twitter handle. However, the Punjab Government has not confirmed this news yet. Meetings are currently underway for the release of the prisoners. Meanwhile, Sidhu has shared this information based on the details provided by the concerned authority. It’s worth noting that Sidhu has been lodged in Patiala Jail since May 20, 2022, after being sentenced to one year in the 1990 road rage case.

48 days of sentence remaining

Sidhu was sentenced to one year on May 19, 2022. As per jail rules, prisoners are given four days’ leave every month. During his sentence, Sidhu did not take a single day off, which means his sentence will end 48 days earlier than expected, on March 31.

Republic Day release was also expected

Earlier, there were reports that Sidhu could be released on Republic Day i.e. January 26. It was speculated that he could be one of the 50 prisoners given special exemption on Republic Day. However, this did not happen, and Sidhu’s supporters had to return with their banners and hoardings at the last moment.

Big name in Punjab politics

Sidhu is a prominent figure in Punjab politics and is always in the headlines. Sidhu, who began his political career with the BJP, is also playing a significant role in Congress. After leaving the BJP and joining Congress, Sidhu has become an essential figure in Punjab politics. He has made himself politically strong, which sets him apart from other leaders. This is why the BJP fielded him in the Lok Sabha elections thrice. Sidhu’s political power remained intact even after joining Congress, and the party supported him despite the opposition of its strong leader, Captain Amarinder Singh.
