IND vs NZ: Kohli will break Ponting and Ganguly’s record, will be king of Asia

A two-Test series is scheduled to begin from February 21 between India and New Zealand. The tour has been mixed for Team India so far. Team India started the tour by winning 5–0 in the five-match T20 series. But New Zealand were eliminated 3–0 in ODIs. Now both teams will be face to face in the Test series where Team India would not like to leave any stone unturned.

Team India captain Virat Kohli would like to win the series and not just do a great tour. Rather, he also has the chance to make many records in this series personally. Let’s know how many records Captain Kohli is waiting for during the two-match Test series.

1 century away from most century as captain

Virat Kohli has 41 international centuries as captain. If he scores another century in the Test series against New Zealand, he will become the player to score the most international centuries as a captain. Currently, Kohli shares a record jointly with former Australian captain Ricky Ponting. Ricky Ponting also has 41 centuries in international cricket as captain.

11 runs behind Sourav Ganguly

Virat Kohli is just 11 runs behind former captain Sourav Ganguly in terms of the record of scoring the most runs while playing for Team India in Test cricket. Sourav Ganguly’s name is 7212 runs in Test cricket, due to which he is ranked 5th in the list of batsmen who scored the most runs in Test cricket for India. While Kohli has 7202 runs in Test cricket. In this way, Kohli can finish fifth in Sourav Ganguly after scoring 11 runs in the field of Wellington.

On the other hand, Sachin Tendulkar is the number one player in Test cricket with 15921 runs. It is followed by Rahul Dravid at number two with 13265 runs, Sunil Gavaskar at number three with 10122 runs, VVS Laxman at number four with 8781 runs and Virender Sehwag at number five with 8503 runs.

Kohli can become Asian King

Not only this, captain Virat Kohli’s bat has not scored a century for a long time. In this way, if he scores a century in a match played in Wellington, he will become the first Asian captain to score a century in South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia. So far no Asian captain has done such a feat in Test cricket. In such a situation, Virat Kohli has a golden opportunity to make another record.

At present, Virat Kohli has 7202 runs and 27 centuries in 141 innings of 84 matches in Test cricket.

Highest man of the match as captain

Ricky Ponting not only holds the record for the highest international century as a captain. Rather, this former Australian batsman has also won the most man of the match titles as a captain. Ricky Ponting has been made Man of the Match 28 times as captain, while Kohli has achieved this feat 27 times. In such a situation, during this Test series, Kohli will also have a chance to match Ricky Ponting or get ahead.
