Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd (Tata Power-DDL) will participate in the National Lok Adalat to facilitate on-the-spot settlement of electricity theft cases and dues related to disconnected connections on March 22.
The Lok Adalat will be organised in association with the Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) and will be held from 10 am to 4 pm at Permanent Lok Adalat-I (PLA-I), located at Sub-station Building 2/13, Sector-13, Rohini, near Venkateshwar Global School in north Delhi.
Tata Power-DDL, which supplies electricity to around 9 million residents in north Delhi, said the initiative is aimed at providing consumers an opportunity to resolve pending disputes in a quick and amicable manner.
“The National Lok Adalat provides a platform for on-the-spot settlement of cases pertaining to electricity theft and disconnected connections, helping consumers avoid prolonged legal proceedings,” an official statement said.
Consumers interested in participating in the Lok Adalat proceedings have been advised to register in advance by calling the utility’s helpline number 19124.
For issues related to theft bills, consumers can reach out via email at eac.care@tatapower-ddl.com, while matters concerning outstanding dues on disconnected connections can be addressed through customercare@tatapower-ddl.com, it said.
Registered litigants will be required to carry a valid photo identity proof along with a copy of the relevant theft bill or bill pertaining to the disconnected connection at the time of attending the Lok Adalat.
The company also said that consumers willing to settle disputed bills can directly walk in to the venue without prior registration, provided they carry their Aadhaar card and a copy of the concerned bill.
Officials said the Lok Adalat mechanism is designed to promote dispute resolution through mutual consent, thereby reducing the burden on courts and enabling faster closure of cases.
They added that if consumers fail to avail themselves of this opportunity, Tata Power-DDL may initiate civil or criminal proceedings against defaulters under the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2003, and applicable Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) regulations.
“Consumers are encouraged to take advantage of this platform to resolve their pending issues and avoid further legal action,” the statement said.
The utility has also made multiple payment options available for settlement of dues, including demand draft, cheque, credit card, debit card, cash and various online payment modes.
To ensure maximum participation, Tata Power-DDL is conducting awareness campaigns through various channels such as social media and SMS notifications, officials said.
The National Lok Adalat is part of a broader effort to promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and provide consumer-friendly platforms for grievance redressal, they added.
