Minister’s statement: Bought car for EV awareness

Minister Sarnaik said that he has bought this car for his grandson. Also, his aim is to promote electric mobility among youth and citizens. He also appealed to other leaders to buy EVs so that sustainable transport can be encouraged.

Status of Tesla bookings

  • More than 600 people have booked Tesla since its launch in India on July 15.
  • According to industry experts, this figure is not very big, but can be considered a reasonable start.

Maharashtra: A major hub of the EV market

  • 91,110 passenger EVs were sold in India between January and July 2025.
  • Of these, 15,873 units were sold in Maharashtra alone, i.e. about 17% market share.
  • At the same time, the luxury EV segment recorded a marginal growth of only 1.8% (22,900 units) this year.

Emphasis on EV policies

The Maharashtra government has taken several steps to promote EVs:

  • Exemption from toll tax on Atal Setu and Samruddhi Expressway
  • Over 5,000 e-buses added to state transport fleet
  • Talks with other companies to strengthen EV charging network

Saranaik says

“The price may be a little higher right now, but the most important thing is to increase the pace of EV adoption and set a good example for the people.”
