New Delhi: Cyclone Tauktae which hit the Arabian Sea, wreaked havoc in the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka and Goa on Sunday. NDRF increases teams
A total of 100 NDRF team are at work. NDRF Director General SN Pradhan said in a tweet that these teams are ready to travel in the coastal areas of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Boats safely returned to ports
The Indian Coast Guard said that all fishing boats in Maharashtra and Gujarat have reached nearby ports. According to the Meteorological Department, it has turned into a very severe cyclonic storm. It is likely to reach the Gujarat coast by the evening of May 17. It is estimated that on the morning of 18 May, it will pass between Porbandar and Mahua in Bhavnagar district.
These states on high-alert
Gujarat
Gujarat has been kept on high alert in view of the possibility of a further storm. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the cyclonic storm has turned into a very severe cyclonic storm and is moving rapidly towards the Gujarat coast. IMD has issued a yellow alert for Gujarat and Daman-Diu.
Heavy rains are expected in Maharashtra: According to the Meteorological Department, due to the storm, many districts along the coast of Maharashtra are expected to receive heavy rains with strong winds on May 17. The storm will be more severe in the next few hours and will reach Gujarat by Monday evening. Goa, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri will be most affected by rain and strong winds. There is also an alert of strong rains in Mumbai. Wind speeds will be around 60 to 70 kmph.
Rajasthan
There is a possibility of an increase in storm and rain activities in the districts of Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer and Kota divisions. During this time, winds will run at a speed of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour.
Gujarat
The storm may hit the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya on the afternoon or evening of May 18, and winds can reach up to 175 km per hour during this time.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to this storm, there was light rain in different parts of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday evening. Not only this, at some places, winds went up to 32 km per hour. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be thunderstorms at some places in the western parts of the state for the next two days. Also, strong winds are expected to run at a speed of 45 to 50 kilometres per hour.
1.5 lakh people transported to safe places
According to information received from Ahmedabad, 1.5 lakh people living in the lower coastal areas in Gujarat have been evacuated to safer places. According to the Meteorological Department, due to the storm, winds can reach up to 175 km per hour till Monday evening.
Alert issued in Kerala
Due to heavy rains in Kerala due to the tyke, there has been a danger of increasing the water level in many dams of the state. The state administration has been alerted of the possible danger.
More than 70 villages of Karnataka affected
According to information from Bengaluru, one person died in Uttar Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamoga in Karnataka. More than 70 villages in seven districts have been affected by the storm. Homes and trees have fallen in many places. In Goa, strong winds started coming in from Sunday morning. Electricity supply has come to a standstill in many areas of the state due to the falling of electric poles and trees at many places.
Home Minister Shah himself took command
Home Minister Amit Shah has reviewed the situation on Sunday afternoon by meeting with officials and chief ministers of several states including Maharashtra, Gujarat. Shah has also assured all possible help to all the states. He has said that if the storm affects the power supply, then keep the hospital backup plan ready.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed the control rooms to be functioning round the clock. The PMO said that the Prime Minister directed the control rooms to be functioning round the clock. He asked to pay special attention to ensure that oxygen supply from Jamnagar is minimised.
