Hyundai launched the BS6 petrol variants of the Elite i20 in January 2020. Now the company has decided to discontinue the BS4 diesel variants of this premium hatchback, due to which the diesel variants of the Elite i20 have also been removed from the company’s official website.
Let us know that this car was given a 1.4-liter BS4 diesel engine, which was capable of generating 90 PS of power and 220 Nm of torque. Along with the engine, it had the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox. Now the company has closed it.
There are discussions that the company will re-include the diesel engine option in the third-generation i20 (third-gen i20). It will have a 1.5-liter diesel engine equipped with BS6 Norms that will come with 100 PS and 235 Nm of power tuning. From this perspective, it will be able to generate 10 PS and 15 Nm more power and torque than the current 1.4-liter diesel engine. Apart from this, the third-generation i20 will also get a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine and a 1.2-liter petrol engine with regular model. Currently the 1.2-liter petrol engine of the vehicle generates torque of 114 Nm at 83 PS power.
The third-generation i20, available in the European market, has a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine. This engine comes with two power tuning 100 PS and 120 PS. The 48 volt mild hybrid system is standard with 120 PS variants of the vehicle. This technology can also be used in 100 PS version. At the same time, a 7-speed DCT gearbox (dual-clutch automatic) will be offered with a turbo-petrol engine in the upcoming model of India. Apart from this, the option of 7-speed DCT gearbox can be kept in 120 PS variants of the car. Hyundai will hardly offer a 48 volt mild-hybrid system with this variant.
BS6 Elite i20 Petrol Price in India is between Rs 5.59 Lakh to Rs 9.2 Lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi). In the segment, this car is compared to BS6 petrol models of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, Tata Ultros and Volkswagen Polo.
