New Delhi: Maruti, the country’s largest carmaker, is preparing to maintain its strong presence in the entry level segment. According to the information received, Maruti Suzuki is preparing two car models worth less than five lakh rupees. It is being told that the company is preparing a new 800cc car. Also, a second model with 1 liter engine is also being developed.
At the same time, sources said that one of the two cars could hit the market by the end of 2020.
The compact car with a 1 liter engine and code name YNC is likely to replace the Celerio, which is currently available with 1 and 1.2 liter engines.
The code for the new 800 cc car is named Y0M. It will be launched by the 2021 festive season. Confirming this, the company’s MD Kenichi Ayukawa said that the company is working on several models including the 800 cc car. However, he did not provide information about the second car.
During an interview, Maruti Managing Director Kenichi Ayukawa said that the company is working on an 800cc car between several more new models. The biggest difficulty in developing a small car is to keep its price low. He said that while we have to follow new rules on safety and emissions while making a car, which automatically increases costs by 10%, reducing this cost is challenging.
