New Delhi: The NCR Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has issued a tender for the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor for the underground rapid metro between Anand Vihar to Vaishali. The first tender for the underground portion has been issued for this corridor. The underground tunnel in this part will be constructed by tunnel boring machine from New Ashok Nagar ramp, New Delhi to Sahibabad ramp in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
The tender has been floated for the design and construction of part of the tunnels in Delhi. Its length is 5.8 kilometers. This part has an underground RRTS station, which will be connected to the Anand Vihar Metro. The NCRTC has commissioned a 17 km priority section from Sahibabad to Duhai EPE by March 2023. At the same time, the entire 82 km long corridor from Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Modipuram in Meerut will be operational by March 2025. RRTS station at Anand Vihar will be built by cut and cover method.
About 11.53 km of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor will be underground. In this, 5.8 km long section of BEL, Ghaziabad will be underground before the commencement of New Ashok Nagar RRTS station (elevated). The 5.73 km stretch from Brahmapuri Meerut Metro station (elevated) to Begumpul RRTS station (before MES Colony metro station) will also be underground. The NCRTC has initiated the appointment of a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) to set up a multimodal integration scheme including two number RRTS elevated stations ie Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a stabling yard at Jangpura. The Master Operations Control Center of the Phase-One RRTS Corridor of the NCRTC will also be built for the three initial corridors of the NCRTC at Jangpura. Work is being done to shift the existing water supply pipeline, shifting of sewer and drains, shifting of power lines and other lines near Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi part of Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor. The NCRTC has already started civil construction for package-one (Vaishali to Ghaziabad) and package-two (from Ghaziabad RRTS station to Duhai).
Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor to have 14 stations
Sarai Kale Khan (elevated), New Ashok Nagar (elevated), Anand Vihar (elevated), Sahibabad (elevated), Ghaziabad (elevated), Guldhar (elevated), Duhai (elevated), Muradnagar (elevated) station), Modi Nagar South (Elevated), Modi Nagar North (elevated), Meerut South (elevated), Shatabdi Nagar (elevated), Begumpul (underground), and Modipuram (elevated station). The corridor also has two depot-cum-stations at Duhai and Modipuram.
The 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Smart Line will connect Delhi Metro at Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi.
Anand Vihar RRTS station will provide better connectivity with Anand Vihar Station of Delhi Metro, Railway Station at Anand Vihar, Kaushambi Bus Terminal and Anand Vihar ISBT.
With the opening of this section, Ghaziabad RRTS station will be connected to Ghaziabad new bus station of Delhi Metro, while Sahibabad RRTS station will be connected with the proposed Vasundhara Sector-2 metro station and bus terminal.
The km priority section is to be operational by March 2023
The km-long corridor will be operational by March 2025.
