TRAI New Rules for DTH: Now 200 channels for 130 rupees

New Delhi: TV viewers have got a big gift on the new year. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken a big step and issued new rules to curb the arbitrariness of DTH operators. According to them, now DTH operators have to show at least 200 free to air channels to TV subscribers from 1 March 2020 for Rs 130. This 130 rupees tax will be charged separately. Right now this operator was showing only 100 channels for 130 rupees.

Apart from this, another decision has been made that operators will not be able to take more than Rs 160 per month to show all free to air channels. At the same time, TRAI has clarified that these channels do not include those channels, which have been declared mandatory by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The number of such channels connected to Doordarshan at present is 26.

  • – Taking second connection will also be cheaper
  • – By January 15, DTH operators will put the new tariff list on the website 36% of TV viewing subscribers will benefit from new rules

In the new tariff policy issued on Wednesday, 1 January 2020, TRAI has clarified that cable TV operators will not be able to charge more than Rs 160 per month for all free to air channels on one of their platforms. At the same time, apart from this, not all TV channels priced above Rs 12 will be part of any bouquet. Customers will be able to take channels separately. They can make cable operator bouquets of only those channels which are priced at Rs 12 or less.

Watching tv will become cheaper

These new rules will now make TV channels much cheaper and people will get relief. Now many operators used to create a group of channels that customers did not want to watch, by name of one channel. But they had to take it under compulsion.

TV subscribers will get more than 33 percent

Only channels priced below Rs 12 will be available in bouquet

A second connection will also be available at cheaper

For more than one connection at home or office, DTH operators will now have to give 40 per cent discount on fares. Now the cable companies will not be able to charge the same fare for both the connections from those taking such connections.

Revised package will be put on website by January 15

TRAI has said that companies will have to put the tariff information on their website by 15 January. By January 30, the rate list of all the channels will be revealed again. This will make it easier for the consumer to choose the channel.
