Ashok Chavan News: Just a day after resigning from the Congress, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan on Tuesday announced his joining of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Chavan told the media that today around 12-12:30 pm I am going to start a new journey of my political career, I am going to join BJP.

While speaking to the media yesterday, Chavan had hinted at taking a decision on his political future in the coming days. According to sources, Deputy Chief Minister and prominent BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis will warmly welcome Chavan into the party. Along with Chavan, his colleague Amrit Rajurkar, who had resigned as a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC), may also join the BJP.

Ashok Chavan News: Sources said Chavan may be offered a Rajya Sabha seat, which could possibly influence his swift transition to the BJP, a day after resigning from both the Congress and the state assembly. As the deadline for filing nominations for Rajya Sabha elections is approaching, both the hustle and bustle and panic have increased.

“I have resigned from the post of MLA. I have given my resignation to the Assembly Speaker. I have also resigned from the Congress Working Committee and the primary membership of the Congress. At present I have not decided to join any party. I will make my stand clear on this,” Chavan had said while speaking to the media after his resignation.

Ashok Chavan News: Chavan’s departure, just months before the state elections and general elections, is a big blow to the Maharashtra Congress. Earlier, prominent Congress leaders like Milind Deora and Baba Siddiqui had also left the party.

Sources within the Congress attribute Chavan’s decision to his differences with state party chief Nana Patole. Chavan expressed dissatisfaction over the delay in the seat-sharing arrangement within the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, raising concerns over the upcoming elections.
