Bihar news: The recently formed alliance between Nitish Kumar and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar is set to undergo a crucial trust vote today. Analysts believe that this challenge will be easily overcome. With this vote of confidence, the budget session will begin in the state assembly.

The BJP-JD(U) alliance has a total of 128 members in the 243-seat Bihar Assembly, crossing the required majority mark of 122.

Bihar news: The distribution of seats within the alliance is as follows: BJP — 78 seats, Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JD(U)) — 45 seats, and Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustan Awam Morcha — four seats. The remaining one seat is occupied by an independent MLA.

On the opposition side, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and its ally Congress collectively have 114 seats.

Many leaders of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had demanded to prove majority, due to which Bihar Assembly Speaker and RJD leader Avadh Bihari Chaudhary is facing a no-confidence motion.

Bihar news: The no-confidence motion against Speaker Chaudhary was addressed immediately after the Governor’s speech at the inauguration of the budget session.

RJD MP Manoj Jha said that JDU and BJP need votes of more than half of the total members to remove the Speaker, a challenge the NDA is expected to overcome easily considering its number of seats.

Bihar news: Chairman Chaudhary has till now refused to step down to avoid embarrassment but after today’s vote he will have to step down.

Before the trust vote, reports of several Rashtriya Janata Dal MLAs going missing had also surfaced.

Bihar news: Senior police officials visited Tejashwi Yadav’s residence in Patna late on Sunday night after RJD MLA Chetan Anand complained that he was “missing”. A video surfaced on social media, in which Chetan Anand is seen playing cricket at Tejashwi’s residence.

Citing discontent within the Grand Alliance, Nitish Kumar took over as Chief Minister for the ninth time on January 28. According to sources, the lack of clarity in India Bloc’s election preparations and Nitish Kumar being ignored as a potential prime ministerial candidate led to dissatisfaction.
