Delhi AQI: Kejriwal govt places new norms to improve air quality

Delhi AQI: Every year, pollution increases in Delhi-NCR during winter and the air here becomes poisonous. Many times it becomes difficult for people to breathe here. Meanwhile, the Central Government’s graded action plan to improve the air quality of Delhi-NCR has been implemented from Sunday. Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has been given the task of cleaning the air quality in Delhi and areas adjacent to Delhi. CAQM has already made many new changes in this action plan for this.

Delhi AQI: Ban on many things in Delhi-NCR

Delhi AQI: Under the new changes, it has been decided that if Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) goes beyond 200, then a complete ban on old vehicles will be implemented in Delhi-NCR. Apart from this, there will also be a ban on burning coal and coal in hotels. Apart from this, if AQI goes above 400, then in such a situation, BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel powered four-wheelers will also be banned in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar with immediate effect.

Delhi AQI: Earlier, apart from all these restrictions, the administration used to impose ban on construction and demolition, ban on high emission vehicles, ban on burning of wood and use of coal even when the air quality reached a particular level. Under the first phase of the rules implemented by GRAP along with the new changes, it has been kept in mind that the instructions given by the Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal regarding vehicles running on overaged diesel and petrol will be strictly followed. Will old excise policy remain in force in Delhi? Kejriwal govt silent on new policy

These rules were made under the second and third phase

Delhi AQI: In the second phase, if the air quality reaches the level of 200, there will be a complete ban on the use of coal and wood in hotels and restaurants. Apart from this, in this phase, it has been said that strict measures will be taken to improve the air quality in places considered to be hotspots for air pollution.

Delhi AQI: Under the third phase, BS-3 petrol and BS-4 diesel powered four-wheelers have been banned in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. Apart from this, in view of air pollution, on the advice of CQAM, a decision can also be taken to keep schools closed for children up to class 5. If AQI reaches 450, then vehicles running on CNG or diesel which are registered outside Delhi may be banned. However, vehicles providing essential services will be exempted during this period. Apart from this, many other important restrictions are also applicable in different phases of GRAP.

Delhi AQI improved for the second time in 6 years

Delhi AQI: The air quality index in Delhi-NCR was recorded at 167 on Saturday. This index is between January 1 and September 30. This is the second time in the last six years that Delhi’s air has been recorded so clean during this period. During this period, Delhi’s air was recorded better only during the Corona epidemic i.e. in the year 2020. During this period in the years 2022, 2021, 2019 and 2018, Delhi’s AQI was 180-193. Work is also done from time to time to improve Delhi’s air quality by banning diesel generators.

Will old Delhi excise policy remain in force in Delhi? Kejriwal govt silent on new policy

There is a possibility of increasing the old excise duty system implemented in Delhi on September 1 last year. The current policy is set to expire on September 30.

This information has been given by sources. As per media reports, the Delhi government is yet to announce the new policy. In July last year, the government had scrapped the new excise policy and implemented the old one after Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommended a CBI probe into alleged irregularities in the implementation of the new policy.

The existing excise policy was implemented on September 1, 2022 as a stopgap arrangement till the new policy is formulated and implemented by the Delhi government. The policy was scheduled to end on March 31 but the Delhi government extended it for six months till September 30. Meanwhile, Manpreet Singh, treasurer of the National Restaurant Association (NRAI), said excise license holders for hotels, clubs and restaurants (HCR) category are facing troubles in getting the police verification required for renewal of their permits.

He said renewal of excise licenses till September 30 is likely to be affected as police are not accepting applications for verification saying they cannot entertain every person. The HCR category license is renewed annually and this year, it must be done by September 30 as the existing policy expires on this date.

Singh said, ‘Police have said that the verification process needs to be carried out not by individuals but through a government agency or department. Also, they have expressed their inability to conduct a large number of verifications in such a short period of time. However, he claimed that the excise department has ‘assured’ that there will be no problem in renewal of HCR category licenses due to police verification.
